Installing New Bag
Slide the new bag in place, with top nuts at the ready, and using a crow bar for leverage pry the bags top bolts thru the opening in the top. Easier than it looks and can be done by one person. Add the nuts. |

Lower Nuts
Instead of stretching the bag I found it easier to raise the axle to meet the bag. Just set a bottle jack on a block and raise until the bags bolts fit thru the plate holes. The bag is a little flexible so you can work them in. Add nuts and tighten top and bottom nuts. |

New Bag Installed
I put some white grease on the male fitting to make reapplying the air hose a bit easier. For whatever reason it was easier to fasten the nut to the fitting than to remove it. Maybe I was just getting better - but I still think they're must be a better COOL tool. Remove the AXLE jack only and fire up the bus to re air the front bags. Blast the fitting with your soapy leak test and check for bubbles. Double check the tightness in all your nuts. Replace the tire and lug nuts (remember reversed on the drivers side). Tighten nuts using your X-12 and a Torque wrench to 550 ft lbs. Recheck to make sure the Level Low is on MAN and the bus is fully UP before removing bottle jacks. Remove blocking and carefully lower the bottle jacks and remove. Return Level Low to ROAD. Since this job was done down in Myrtle Beach, my family was concerned that I might not be able to replace the new bag and finish. And I have to admit at time I did share their fears, but it worked out ok. Would I do it again? Well the second time for any job is a lot easier. So before I answer that I'm going to do the second front bag, then I'll let you know if it's me or Prevo next time. Please email me if you read in inaccuracies in this post, or a way that the procedure could be performed better/easier. We're all still learning. Thanks. mike@mangomikes.com Mike 11.26.2006 |
